Chapter Fourteen
Sitting in the living room at Krish's, Luke took the can Krish held out for him. He popped it open and took a few mouthfuls. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he burped, then smiled sheepishly. "Sorry."
"No worries." Krish took a sip of his beer. "So, Sarah turned up?"
Luke nodded, sighing. "Yeah, she was there. It's not like the pub is even her local, so she's come out of the way with her boyfriend just to sit there and watch me. You'd think she'd be it by now, but clearly, she isn't. Why she can't leave me alone... I just don't understand it." Luke shook his head as he messed with the tab on his can of beer.
"Maybe she's not over you."
"Not over me? Course she's over me. If she wasn't, then why would she spread all those rumours about me? If she wasn't over me, then why would she do all of that? And she's with someone else."
"I can't honestly say. Who knows how a woman's mind works? Maybe she's just upset because she thinks you lied to her by not telling her about your past."
"It's not something you reveal on a first date, is it? I just wanted to take some time, until I was certain about us."
"I understand that. But maybe she didn't. Maybe she thinks you've lied to her and it hurt her feelings." Krish leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Maybe she had deep feelings for you, and when she found out about this, she felt like you'd betrayed her. I'm not trying to defend her actions because what she has done is indefensible, but if she did have deep feelings for you, then maybe you can understand why she has behaved the way she has."
Luke snorted. "You should be doing psychology or some course like that, not creative writing."
Krish chuckled. "Human behaviour has always fascinated me. You may say one thing, but your body can be saying something totally different."
"Is that how you knew about me?"
"Knew about you? No, I wasn't certain, but I was hopeful."
Luke glanced away, staring at the can in his hand. He didn't know what to say. Had his body been betraying him all along? Luke frowned, not liking that thought.
A pair of trainers entered his view, and he glanced up, seeing Krish stood in front of him. Krish took the can from his hand and placed it on the floor. Luke watched, not stopping him. Krish grabbed his hand and pulled him up from the chair, so Luke now stood in front of him. Due to the difference in height, Luke had to look up, and the look on Krish's face had him gasping. Pupils so dilated that Luke could barely see the colour of his eyes. There was a flush on his tanned skin, and his lips were wet and swollen as if Luke had been kissing them.
Luke closed his eyes when Krish's hands slid up his arms and over his shoulders to hold his neck.
